About the Author

Karen T. Lockridge

As a girl, growing up in rural Texas, Karen was often scolded for always "having her head in the clouds".

An active and creative imagination was always part of her personality. Inspired in her youth by the wonders of the Wizard of Oz, and traveling the rivers with Huck Finn and Tom, then later in life soaring through the galaxy with Isaac Asimov's Foundation and traveling through Middle Earth in J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. In every book that held her, she most admired the friendships formed between groups of people, coming together, to achieve a single purpose. Learning to work together, questioning their own ideas of good and evil, and giving their all to make sure their mission was achieved.

Throughout her life, she cataloged people; personalities, unique places and events that would eventually grow into their own epic adventure. Drawing from the books she loved throughout the years, she was able to give them life, in her series Distant Lands. The first book in the series, Dark Horizon, introduces each of our heroes and gives us a peek into their lives. We learn what drives them to confront their possible doom in order to preserve the land they love and complete their mission.
